CQ’s People Watcher

Artist: Angela Heffer

Angela Heffer’s arts practice is primarily invested in digital illustration. Since 2016, Angela has captured the diverse, colourful and quirky people and places of Central Queensland through an ongoing series of illustrated vignettes predominantly exhibited via her Instagram platform @cqpeoplewatcher.

Angela’s illustrations tenderly and uniquely showcase and celebrate the extraordinary in the ordinary, connect place and community, and powerfully promote diversity with quiet consideration and observant insight.

What began as hand-coloured, black-line sketches of scenes in communal spaces progressed in 2018 when Angela taught herself an iPad-based drawing program and translated her candidly snapped mobile phone photographs into digital artworks.

At this time, Angela also introduced her sweet, cheeky feathered friend “Little Plover” as a trademark character hidden within each composition. Searching for this tiny white and grey bird gives a further device for audiences of all ages to access a sense of belonging through Angela’s deftly shared humour and humanity.
