Good Vibrations
Artists: Belinda McGrath, Marlies Oakley & Jeremy Titus
This exhibition seeks to explore sound in a variety of familiar forms (instruments and music) but also through visual representations that seek to overlap the senses of sight and sound by three artists.
Rockhampton printmaker Belinda McGrath lino print works put a spin on popular melodies using depictions of songs visually captured by a Cymascope – a machine that uses vibration and frequency and liquid to display unique circular imagery. Belinda’s pieces portray particular lyrics of tracks such as U2’s One, and a fun series devoted to all tunes “Hello”.
Marlies Oakley’s collages take lyrics from songs as a starting point for playing with words, which like sounds, are loaded with different meanings. Based in Bundaberg, Marlies’s delicately hand cut and assembled works reinterpret, warp and shape new life into familiar icons with a humorously surreal twist.
Jeremy Christopher Titus is an enigmatic artist, currently hailing from Mount Morgan. Jeremys fastidiously formed abstracted illustrations are created with humble tools - stationery store ballpoint pens and markers. Jeremy’s works delve into sound as an expression of energy and transfer. In his own words: "Jeremy gets out of his own way, and then, by a mysterious action, the Thing is done."
